The Tampa Bay Lightning (15-7-2) defeated the Detroit Red Wings (13-11-1) 6-3 on Friday afternoon in Detroit. With the win, the Lightning have now won six in a row and are 14-3-0 in their past seventeen games.
Yanni Gourde scored twice to lead the way for Tampa Bay. After the Red Wings struck midway through the first period to take an early lead, Darren Raddysh scored on the power play late in the first to tie the game 1-1. The Lightning got three in the second - including both of Yanni Gourde's goals and a goal from Gage Goncalves - and led 4-3 after two periods.
In the third period the Lightning got a goal from Jake Guentzel and an empty-net goal from Brandon Hagel to turn the game into a 6-3 final. Andrei Vasilevskiy got the start in the first game of a back-to-back and went 33-of-36 in net to pick up the win.
The Lightning now travel to New York to play the Rangers when they meet in the second game of a back-to-back on Sunday afternoon. Puck drop Sunday is scheduled for 2:00 PM at Madison Square Garden in New York.
