(Miami, FL) - The rainy season is set to begin next week and runs May 15th thru Oct 15th.
According to National Weather Service meteorologist-in-charge, Robert Molleda, we will ease into the rainy season due to developing El Niño, according to today's annual report.
Molleda says as a result, this year we will see below normal rainfall and above normal temperatures.
He also predicts that July will be the hottest time of the year and possibly driest with episodes of Saharan dust which retards tropical activity.
In addition, sea surface temperatures which fuels hurricane formation will be warmer than normal in the Atlantic and the Gulf and "the first six weeks in June into early July will be the stormiest."
NOAA's hurricane outlook will be released in two weeks. The Atlantic Hurricane season beings June 1st.
