Hours-long SWAT Standoff Ends with Arrest of Man Accused of Beating 3 Kids

A four-hour SWAT stand-off ends with the arrest of a father accused of beating three children in a Tamiami apartment, June 7th.

The Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office says 33-year-old Brice Martinez is charged with three counts of child abuse.

Martinez appeared in court the following day where Judge Mindy Glazer read from the arrest form.

"This is pretty violent," she said.

"He slammed the (5-year-old) child's head against the wall three times causing a large laceration that required five staples," Glazer read. "The child has injuries, as well, and had to go to the hospital for traumatic brain injury."

The arrest form went on to state a 2-year-old was thrown down on a concrete floor causing pain to his back.

"(Martinez) got upset with the 8-year-old for trying to help his brother and punched him," Glazer read.

The judge jailed Martinez without bond until his next court appearance.

Court records show he is a fugitive from Broward County where he is facing charges for domestic violence.
