DeSantis, Students Honor Victims of Communism at Freedom Tower

(Miami, FL) - Hundreds of Miami-Dade students packed inside the Freedom Tower on this Victims of Communism Day.

The Freedom Tower is a National Historic Landmark marking the Cuban exodus to the United States 

Governor Ron DeSantis telling them Florida is home to millions of people who came here seeking freedom from countries controlled by Communism. He points to Cuba and Venezuela as excellent examples of the failed, repressive ideology.

DeSantis says Florida is the first and only state in the country that has a day to remember the victims of communism November 7th. The date chosen to remember Russia’s Bolshevik Revolution in 1917.

The law creating the day also requires that students in public school receive 45 minutes of anti-communism, freedom education. He says that includes instances of domestic communism.
