South Florida Band Director Grateful for Grammy Win

A South Florida music educator who won a Grammy says that she was proud to represent her band and Miami.

Jennifer Jimenez has led the music program at South Miami Senior High for two decades, booking her students to perform at two Super Bowls and at Carnegie Hall.

Jimenez was selected for the Music Educator Grammy from a list of 10 finalists and 15 semifinalists. Along with the award, Jimenez received 10-thouosand dollars and a matching grant for South Miami Senior High’s music program.

Jimenez says when she first found out she won the Grammy, she cried privately in her classroom and was only able to share the news with her husband and the principal. "I am so grateful and humbled to represent the music community and to shine the spotlight on Miami-Dade." Jimenez said.
