Marvel Relaunching 'Daredevil' On Disney+

Fans knew something was coming back in December when Charlie Cox showed up as blind attorney Matt Murdock in Spider-Man: No Way Home, but this news makes it official. Marvel is bringing Daredevil into the MCU. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Marvel Studios is moving forward with a new Daredevil series for Disney+. Writers Matt Corman and Chris Ord (creators of the USA Network spy series Covert Affairs) have been hired to run the new show, but not much else is known at this point.

The character has been in a weird limbo for the last few years. Back when Marvel TV operated independently of its movie business, Daredevil was the first of five Marvel superhero shows produced for Netflix. They were initially announced as taking place in the same Marvel Cinematic Universe where the movies happen, but they never quite felt like it. Characters in Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, The Punisher, and Iron Fist alluded to events that happened in the movies, but never got too specific or mentioned any of the Avengers characters by name. Once Disney+ launched and Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige took control of the TV side, the Netflix shows all ended and the focus was put on new MCU shows for the Disney streaming service.

With the Daredevil cameo in Spider-Man: No Way Home and Vincent Donofrio popping up in Hawkeye as the Kingpin, it became clear that Marvel intends to use some of the actors from the Netflix shows as they work the characters into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It will be interesting to see if the new show keep's Daredevil's supporting cast and if anyone from the other shows appears here or gets worked into some other MCU project.
